We’re in the age of “extra,” and everyone has to figure out what extra they can add to their work to justify being paid more than a computer, a Chinese worker or a day laborer.

Read this editorial right after posting on economic development.  Friedman, as always, nails it.  It is going to be a monumental challenge for depressed regions to breed “artisans”, but I do believe that we all innately want to feel valued in an original way - this is the challenge of the 21st century. How do you personally add unique value to your job?
